Sara Hendren and Alice Sheppard

Sara Hendren researches and teaches social design, adaptive and supporting technology development, and disability studies at Olin College of Engineering. Hendren writes articles on material art and design, especially adaptive, supporting, prosthetic, and comprehensive design, and gives lectures on accessible architecture.

Alice Sheppard is a world-renowned dancer and choreographer, creates movement that challenges conventional understandings of disabled and dancing bodies. Engaging with disability arts, culture and history, Sheppard attends to the complex intersections of disability, gender, and race by exploring the societal and cultural significance of difference.

Sara Hendren and Alice Shepard invite participants to expand their research about accessibility and availability of ramps in public infrastructures and architectures around Buk Seoul Museum of Art. The seminar begins with Shepard’s choreography staged on Hendren’s Slope: Intercept. The artists and participants tour around the museum, temporarily intervening in residential and commercial spaces. In the mapping workshop, participants create a map visualizing wheelchair accessibility. Hendren’s talk introduces her ongoing project Slope: Intercept and related research.

- The seminar will be cooperate with the *Nodl Popular School's students, teachers for workshops and lectures. They will have a question and answer session after the tour, and mapping.

The Nodl Popular School is dedicated in education to help confront the unequal lives of those with disabilities. The school focus on students who have been unable to receive a proper education and are discriminated against solely because of their disabilities, and to help foster the individual thoughts and abilities within the context of the unjust reality in which we live.
The school as an organization is working towards breaking down the boundaries that exist between persons with disabilities and able-bodied persons and broadening mutual solidarity for a more inclusive society.
