Kim Hyonkyong

Kim Hyonkyong studied Anthropology in Seoul National University, and received her Doctoral degree in 'History and Civilizations' at the ?cole des Hautes ?tudes en Sciences Sociales in France. Her doctoral dissertation was on the modernization of Korea and studying abroad practices. She identifies herself as an independent scholar, and aims to experiment with new ways of academic writing.

This lecture will discuss how space becomes a specific place with meaning, and how this place becomes the center of struggle. The language of this struggle will be explored in connection to the political discourse regarding residency, property rights, citizen and alien rights, as well as how art comes in to that space in radical ways to respond to those political discourses.
