Vesti La Giubba is an installation project focusing on the labor and emotion of female workers we encounter on a daily basis. The workers wear uniforms of unspecified companies and face the audience?consumer?capitalist, as if in an opera Vesti La Giubba. Joo Hwang represents this situation through photography, using standard workplaces as background.
This seminar invites participants to contemplate in a new way on the fundamental uncertainty of capitalism. We will discuss the relationship between the capitalists and laborers which lack eye contact, and the consequent distortion and marginalization of labor that’s generalized in Neoliberalism. The artist and participants will talk about their experience of labor, emotional labor and commodification of experience.
