2000년 《미디어_시티 서울》이라는 이름으로 시작한 《서울미디어시티비엔날레》는 지난 20여 년 동안 도시 서울과 미디어 환경의 변화 속에서 미술의 동시대성과 실험성을 주목하며 오늘날까지 이어지고 있습니다. 본 비엔날레는 1996년부터 세 차례 개최된 《도시와 영상》에서 서울과 미디어와 관련한 사유의 경험을 나누기 시작했고, 이후 2년마다 열리는 비엔날레 형식으로 시대와 공명하는 다양한 생각과 활동을 담아왔습니다.

Since its inauguration in 2000 as an initiative of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Seoul Mediacity Biennale has earned international recognition for its experimental engagement with contemporaneity and the changes of media in the city. The Biennale has shared conceptual experiences on media from its precursor exhibition SEOUL in MEDIA, which was held three times between 1996 and 1999. Since then, the Biennale has presented eleven editions, each embodying varying ideas and activities that resonate with its respective time.

The Seoul Museum of Art is pleased to announce its open call for the position of artistic director of the 12th Seoul Mediacity Biennale.

Since its inauguration in 2000 as an initiative of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Seoul Mediacity Biennale has earned international recognition for its experimental engagement with contemporaneity and the changes of media in the city. The Biennale has shared conceptual experiences on media from its precursor exhibition Seoul in Media, which was held three times between 1996 and 1999. Since then, the Biennale has presented eleven editions, each embodying varying ideas and activities that resonate with its respective time. In order to continue the pursuit of novel modes of interpreting the Biennale’s identity and extending the project’s historical continuum, Seoul Museum of Art seeks to appoint the artistic director for the forthcoming 12th Seoul Mediacity Biennale through an open call process. We encourage the interest and application of competent, creative and thoughtful contemporary art planners to lead this project towards its next iteration.

제12회 서울미디어시티비엔날레 사전프로그램 《정거장》은 《서울미디어시티비엔날레》 소장자원과 함께 한국 미술사에서 있었던 미디어 실천과 실험을 다시 읽고 미디어 아트에 관한 인식을 경험적 차원에서 살펴보고자 마련되었습니다. 비엔날레의 25년 역사를 기록하는 작품들과 현재 진행중인 활동을 보는 뜻깊은 자리에 많은 관심과 참여바랍니다. 감사합니다.

The 12^th Seoul Mediacity pre-Biennale Station was organized to re-read media practices and experiments in Korean art history in conjunction with the resources of 25 years old Seoul Mediacity Biennale history and to examine perceptions of media art at an empirical level. Viewers are invited to visit and participate in this meaningful presentation of historical artworks as well as the ongoing activities of the Seoul Mediacity Biennale.

제12회 서울미디어시티비엔날레 사전프로그램 《정거장》에서는 지난 비엔날레 작품과 기록을 전시하는 공간에 미디어아트의 근원성에 집중한 작품을 새롭게 호출하거나 제작했습니다.

TERRAINFORMING starts from the given that maps, borders, and landscapes are not only constructions, but fictions and abstractions that nevertheless forecast and foreclose life on earth to come. From here it is worthwhile to begin to look at systems, routes and non-disclosing forms that might act as alternate maps. Through a series of lectures, presentations, and artistic contributions, this two-day program proposes several aterritorial ways of relating to multiple spatial conditions, and to finding social solidarities. As a part of the SMB12 pre-biennale, the events forecast a few of the ideas, ways of understanding, artistic practices, and aesthetics of the project to come.

《테라인포밍》은 현재의 지도, 경계, 그리고 풍경을 주어진 구조로만이 아니라 도래하는 지구상의 삶을 예견하는 허구와 추상으로 보자는 관점에서 출발한다. 이와 같은 관점은 대안적인 지도로 작동할 법한 시스템, 경로, 그리고 비공개된 형태들을 들여다 보는데 그 가치가 있다. 강연, 대화와 예술적 발표로 이루어진 이틀 간의 프로그램은 다양한 공간적 상태에 연결되고 사회적 결속을 찾을 수 있는 비영토적 방법을 제안한다. 본 프로그램은 제12회 서울미디어시티비엔날레 사전프로그램의 두 번째 시간으로, 내년에 개최될 비엔날레의 생각, 이해의 방법, 예술적 실천과 미학을 예고한다.
